Dreams turned Dark
As the Sun rises on the Land, it casts a shadow on the Hopes of the masses.Dreams and goals shattered by the Broken System. That is the Story of the Day in Zimbabwe.Youths face an unending War, one war so great that it has left many casualties and fatalities in its wake. This is a story set in morden-day Zimbabwe.
Growing up, every Jack and Jill had a dream of making it big in life. Some wanted to be doctors, others nurses and others pilots.Everyone dreamt big in their own space, but in truth most of those dreams were shattered by a broken system.
In the early 2000's, Zimbabwe's economy went on a nose-dive.One dive that was even quicker than that of a Concorde. This downturn in the economy led to a record high rate of poverty.During that period Zimbabwe was already engaged in a fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. With poverty on the rise, our government found itself in a Two-fronted WarZone.
Many turned to illicit acts to make a living. The young men became like-minded robbers and the young ladies turned to prostitution. This was all because the employment sector was in tatters. One good example is the decaying City of Kings and Queens.Bulawayo in its prime was the centre of activity. An industrial hub that was meant to employ hundreds of thousands now just reduced to a shadow of its former self.
You walk in the streets of the once bustling City of Bulawayo and you come to one sad realisation, its littered with illegal drug empties. Most of the youths have turned to the common drug they call Bronko. This is their gate-away ticket from the everyday stresses of a crippled nation. They used to be the dreamers but now they are choked by the smoke of their burnt up dreams.
One question i always have in mind is, "Who is going to listen to the cries."Cries of a broken generation, tears of a weeping nation.
